Don't let your Art overpower your Furniture

Monday, October 26, 2009

As a general rule, when displaying a piece of art above a piece of furniture it should not be longer than the width of the furniture. Most experts agree that any artwork should be 70 - 80% of the width of the piece of furniture it is accompanying, be it a couch, table or desk.

Of course, with all design rules, there are the exceptions that make the rule, but it's good to know that you are breaking the rule, and have a good reason to do so, rather than just haning big pieces of art of the wall without rhyme or reason.
