When selecting art, it is import to relate the art appropriately to the wall space.
Smaller pictures (grouped or alone) work better on for narrow walls and larger works are meant for big wall spaces.
It's also important to relate art to the furniture around it. In general, when hanging art over a piece of furniture such as a sofa, table... or even a fireplace mantle, it should not be longer than the width of the furniture.
